A Complete Guide for Cyprus

Owning an electric bike is an investment in freedom, health, and sustainable travel. To keep your E-Bike running smoothly and extend its lifespan, regular maintenance is essential — especially in Cyprus, where the sun, heat, sea air and dust can all affect performance. This guide covers everything you need to know to maintain your E-Bike and protect it from the island’s unique climate.

Keep It Clean

Regular washing: Wipe down your frame, wheels and drivetrain with a damp cloth after dusty or salty rides.

Avoid high-pressure hoses: Instead, use a gentle stream or sponge to prevent water from entering bearings or electronics.

Dry thoroughly: Especially after coastal rides — salt accelerates corrosion if left on the bike.

Battery Care

Charge indoors: Keep your battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Avoid deep discharges: Try to keep charge between 20–80% when possible.

Storage: If you won’t use your E-Bike for a few weeks, store the battery at around 50–60% charge in a temperate room.

Clean contacts: Lightly wipe battery contacts with a dry cloth to keep them free of dust and moisture.

Motor & Electronics

Check connections: Periodically inspect wiring, connectors and display units for signs of wear or corrosion.

Firmware updates: If your E-Bike uses a smartphone app or has updatable firmware, keep it current for optimal performance.

Protection from elements: Avoid leaving your bike parked in direct sun for long periods or exposed to rain overnight.

Tyres & Wheels

Correct pressure: Keep tyres inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended PSI. Lower pressures wear tyres faster and reduce range.

Inspect tread: Replace tyres showing significant wear, cuts or embedded debris.

True your wheels: A wobbly wheel affects braking and handling — have them trued at a shop if needed.

Brakes & Gears

Brake pads: Check regularly for wear; E-Bikes’ extra weight can wear pads faster.

Brake cables or hoses: Look for fraying or leaks (on hydraulic systems).

Drivetrain lubrication: Clean and lubricate the chain every 150–200 km, especially after dusty or wet rides.

Gear adjustments: If shifting feels rough or skips, adjust or have a shop fine-tune your derailleur.

Frame & Bolts

Tighten bolts: E-bikes vibrate more due to higher speeds — check stem, handlebars, crank bolts and racks regularly.

Inspect frame: Look for cracks or damage, especially around welds and mounting points.

Software & Display Settings

Check ride data and diagnostic codes through your display or app.

Reset or calibrate sensors as recommended by your manufacturer.

Professional Servicing

Even with diligent care, your E-Bike should have a comprehensive service at least once a year (or every 2,000–3,000 km) by a qualified technician. They’ll inspect bearings, firmware, brake systems, motor mounts, and electrical integrity.

Tips for Cyprus’s Climate

Heat: Don’t leave your bike or battery in a hot car or under direct sunlight for hours.

Sea air: Rinse and dry after rides along the coast to prevent salt corrosion.

Dust: In summer, regularly clean moving parts and chain; consider a chain guard or cover.
